FFTC Welcomes New Agricultural Economist

2008-06-17

The center welcomes a new addition to its family. Mr. Ho-Kyum Lee, a highly experienced agricultural economist from Korea with an impressive record in agricultural credit and banking, has been appointed as FFTC Agricultural Econimist in February 2008. This is in view of the retirement of Mr. In-Woo Lee, who returned to the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF) Research Institute of Korea after four years of dedicated and committed service to FFTC, marked by his outstanding contributions to the promotion of agriculture and the cooperative movement in the Asian and Pacific region.

Before joining FFTC, Mr. Ho-Kyum Lee was Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of the NACF - CA Asset Management Co., a joint venture of NACF Korea and Credit Agricole, France. Mr. Lee has extensive experiences in agricultural research, rural finance, and international cooperation in the past 30 years, which will surely enable him to make significant contributions in terms of introducing new ideas and in effectively carrying out FFTC's programs and activities in agricultural economics and related fields.

Mr. Lee also served as General Manager, Regional Office of NACF in Kangwon Province, Korea; Associate Professor, Agricultural Cooperative College, Korea; and Team Head/Assistant Manager, International Cooperation Department, NACF. From his years of dedicated service to NACF, Mr. Lee has been well-exposed to the vital role that agricultural cooperatives play in enhancing farmers' economy and livelihood, a challenge which has become even greater now amid new issues and forces shaping the global agricultural environment, and which FFTC hopes to address in its programs and activities.
