FFTC 40th anniversary symposium/20th Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting

To deliberate on the topic Perspectives on Agriculture in the Asian and Pacific Region to enable countries in the ASPAC to face and respond to new issues and challenges amid the current agricultural environment; and for the TAC members to provide program and policy guidance to the Center.

Fertilizer policy for ensuring sustainable food production in the Asian and Pacific region

To share and exchange information and technology necessary to formulate appropriate fertilizer policies for sustainable food production in the region.

July 19-23, Philippines

Utilization of native animals for building rural enterprise in warm climate zone

To promote technologies and strategies on sustainable production and profitable utilization of native domesticated animals as a livelihood opportunity in the warm climate zone.

September 27 - October 02, Indonesia

Evaluation and sustainable management of soil carbon sequestration in Asian countries

To share soil management practices and technologies relevant for minimizing soil carbon emissions and maximizing carbon sequestration in Asia.

October 25-29, Thailand

Improved utilization of fishery by-products as potential nutraceuticals and functional foods

To share and exchange information on potential fishery by-product resources for value-added production, and to promote waste utilization technology.

November 08-12, Japan

Enhancement of functional biodiversity relevant to sustainable food production in the ASPAC region

To share and exchange information and technologies to enhance functional biodiversity, with focus on pollinators and natural enemies, for sustainable crop production in the region.

Special Projects

May 30 - June 05, Taiwan ROC

Training workshop on Rapid Bioassay of Pesticide Residues (RBPR) on fruits and vegetables for market inspection and farm education

To equip government researchers, laboratory technicians, inspection officers, and extension workers in the ASPAC region with a working knowledge of the RBPR as a rapid testing/screening tool for pesticide residue in fruits and vegetables.

August 30 - September 10, Taiwan ROC

Agricultural biotechnology training workshop in partnership with Southeast Asian countries

To strengthen the agricultural biotechnology capacity of countries within the region envisioned to pave the way for the enhancement of their respective biotechnology industry.

October - December, Philippines

Field evaluation of Taiwan yellow corn hybrids in Laguna Province, Philippines

To raise the average yield per hectare, ensure sustainable production in prime corn lands, and address poverty by increasing the income of marginal corn farmers in the area.

January - December, Cambodia

Health management of pathogen-free citrus seedlings for the rehabilitation of the citrus industry from serious epidemic of HLB and virus diseases in Cambodia and the ASPAC (Y2)

To rehabilitate the citrus industry in Cambodia and its neighboring countries through the introduction of an integrated healthy management system to prevent the re-planted PF seedlings from being re-infected by HLB and virus diseases.
